It was okay

I was entertained, which is always important. I'd recommend working on graphics a bit; gradients don't get you everywhere. Level 5 needs to be fixed; I shot everything that came in, then it was a very long nothing happening. A good start, though; keep working on it.

Nice premise

But the Scripting needs serious work. I clicked "instructions" and got level 0, made it through level 1 and started over; and for that matter, it wasn't clear I was supposed to click and drag the ball. I'd suggest actually making the ball into a cursor object to improve the game. But it does have potential; it just needs finessing.

Aaron0710 responds:

Right, I've fixed it up now... and checked it from the site. The instructions work, as does the shiny new plot button.

Too basic

Fair enough for a shooter, but there was really no skill involved. You weren't fighting a timer, nor moving targets, nor anyone trying to shoot you before you shot them. And buying ammo (and upgrades?) should really be saved for the end of a level, not while you're shooting. Graphics improvement would be a nice bonus. Work on it some more, and perhaps ask a few friends to test it for you and get their input before submitting it here.

iamrunegecko responds:

i will be adding moving targets, then re-submitting...

Enjoyed it a lot

Good twist on the platformer. Sadly I can't find my way past level 2 (where's the star?), but it was definitely an interesting concept. 8/10.

51lver responds:

level two star is on the far far top right hand corner of the game

Not enough control

It was too easy to have to restart the level with a difference of one pixel between "I made it" and "crud." The thing moves too far in a single keystroke. However, I did like the concept a lot, and for that I give it a good score.

Kwing responds:

That's what I originally thought, but when I decreased the speed by ONLY ONE pixel per frame, it was way too slow. I could have had it go at a speed that wasn't a whole number, but I just said "screw it," because the enemies couldn't afford to move slower than they already were.

Did not enjoy it

Generally one expects to see the rock actually hit the cat in order to lose a life. Furthermore, this is the type of game where wrap-around borders are NOT a good idea.

And what is it with people and that damn song?! It's hardly the best of Linkin Park, and after a while you get tired of hearing it. Different soundtrack, if you would.

PRELOADERS: http://www.newgrounds.com/downloads/

That's all I have to say. Good try, but it needs lots of work.

flightlesschickens responds:

those are as2 i need as3

Oh, carpal tunnel!

I'm working with ActionScript 1, and can't afford to update my software, so this thing's not much use to me. But for those with AS2 programs, I can see this being helpful. (Hint to other viewers: you can copy and paste the code he gave you!) Good tutorial; 6/10.

PolutedFuse responds:

Sorry, I have to edit that..
I'm pretty sure AS2 and AS1 are prettymuch the same except for a few minor differences.. this tutorial should work with AS1 :)

Top-notch song, low-caliber game

There was no preloader, there was no entertainment value in the gameplay--there was really no point to the game itself. And the song "Clubbed to Death" deserves far better than this.

Newgrounds GIVES you preloaders ( http://www.newgrounds.com/downloads/p reloaders/ ), generally useful for something 7 megs in size. Try "Beginner Flash Game Programming for Dummies" to learn ActionScript; it's been helping me out a lot on my project.

No, nothing this time, but keep working on it.

luckyesmiperro responds:

Hey i know the preloaders page one

Okay then...

I thought it was funny that the button you made for the Button tutorial only worked if the mouse was right over the text--no hit area or anything.

If you're going to claim to be a reliable Flash teacher, make reliable Flash.

karionfabe responds:

i fix the button and made background colour. also added a preloader

Very useful; thank you

I'm not perfect, but I am coming to realize I could be better on NG than I am. I've posted a few reviews which are justifiably labeled useless, and it helps to know what constitutes a helpful review.

This is a very practical tool for us users, and I think it should be made available outside of the front page list. Very well done.

Sispri responds:

Ah, thank you for your kind words.
